Maggie Smith

Born into the creative and performing arts, my life experiences have given me a deep connection to, and love of, communication and all it's artistic variants. From music to theater, creative writing to graphic design - every aspect of connecting and expressing thoughts and feelings have come to drive and flavor the digital fine art that I now create. In essence, I consider myself to be a visual bard, a story-teller using pixels as my words. Neither purely external nor internal in my approach to subject matter, I depict an internal story from the external images I see around me. My past experience as a writer helps me create a poetic narrative that gives direction and meaning to my art; my background as an actor allows me to 'live in the moment' of my work, which tends to be figurative in nature, as if I were there; as a musician, I am able to sense a rhythm and flow in the work that helps me create a harmony that resonates on an intuitive level; and my education in graphic design has given me the intellectual understanding of design and composition that helps integrate all the parts into a balanced whole. Using these tools, I find great joy in trying to capture the story of a moment in time...a story that at it's core, is something understandable and shared by all.
